Signing Up for Enniskillen’s Free Canada Day Tour Buses
Enniskillen Township is celebrating the 150th anniversary of North America’s first commercial oil well by giving the public a free Canada Day bus tour of the area and it is taking reservations now. Three buses are planned to journey back into the glory days of Enniskillen oil. They will leave Krall Park between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and make seven stops through Oil Springs, Petrolia and the township before arriving back at Krall Park for the annual Canada Day chicken barbecue. The stops include: The Oil Museum of Canada; a tour through Fairbank Oil Properties founded in 1861; Metal Men Sculptor Murray Watson’s shop; Ray Lloyd’s Step Into History; Tansy Hall built in 1899; Baines Machine Shop founded in 1914, VanTuyl and Fairbank Hardware founded in 1865; and The Petrolia Discovery. A free lunch will be provided for those on the buses. Pre-registration is a must and space is limited. To reserve a spot, call the Enniskillen Township office at 882-2490. The sites will be open to all and the public is welcome to take the tour in their own vehicles. To find out more about 150th anniversary celebrations, go to www.2008.celebrate.com
